While normal farmers and peasants can be drafted into military service in a pinch, the most skilled soldiers are the saburashi. Sworn to a life of military service, bound by society's warrior culture, the saburashi begin training at a young age at saburashi schools. Though each nation has saburashi schools, the largest by far is the Kuroten Saburashi Academy. The academy is a castle situated on the coast of the main island, only accessible by a drawbridge. There, the saburashi train for combat through sparring sessions with each other. They learn about the theory of war from older saburashi and retired generals. In addition to regular saburashi, the elite palace guard are also trained at the academy. Their training is similar, though they are required to complete seven great feats of strength and agility while wearing their ceremonial guard armor before they are deemed ready to protect the royal family of Kuroten.
